Fuel Tax

Quarterly IFTA Filing

Send us your miles and fuel receipts. We do the math, file the return and keep you ahead of the due date.

What We Do

IFTA Returns, Done For You

IFTA lets you file one fuel tax return with your home state instead of one with every state you drove through. It still has to be right: miles by state and gallons by state, every quarter.

We build your return from your ELD or trip sheets and your fuel receipts, file it with your base state, and send you a copy. If you owe, you know the number before the due date. If you have a credit coming, we make sure it's claimed.

Do You Need An IFTA License?

You need one if you run a qualified motor vehicle in two or more IFTA states or provinces. A qualified motor vehicle is one that:

  • Has two axles and weighs over 26,000 lbs (gross or registered weight), or
  • Has three or more axles, at any weight, or
  • Runs in a combination over 26,000 lbs.

RVs don't count.

IFTA Due Dates

QuarterMonthsReturn due
Q1Jan – MarApril 30
Q2Apr – JunJuly 31
Q3Jul – SepOctober 31
Q4Oct – DecJanuary 31

If the due date lands on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day. You still file a return for a quarter you didn't run.

What Late Costs You

Your base state can charge $50 or 10% of the tax owed, whichever is more, plus interest every month it goes unpaid. If a balance sits unpaid for 30 days after you're notified, your IFTA license can be revoked. That stops you in every IFTA state, not just one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Four years from the date the return was due or filed, whichever is later. That's your trip records and your fuel receipts. If you get audited, those records are what the auditor works from.

You get two decals per truck, one for each side of the cab, on the outside. Keep a copy of your IFTA license in every truck too. Decals are issued every year, and the license runs through December 31.

Your base state can issue a temporary decal permit that's good for 30 days. Carry it in the truck until the decals come in.

No. Kentucky, New Mexico, New York and Oregon each have their own weight-distance tax, filed separately from IFTA. We file those too.
