IFTA Returns, Done For You
IFTA lets you file one fuel tax return with your home state instead of one with every state you drove through. It still has to be right: miles by state and gallons by state, every quarter.
We build your return from your ELD or trip sheets and your fuel receipts, file it with your base state, and send you a copy. If you owe, you know the number before the due date. If you have a credit coming, we make sure it's claimed.
Do You Need An IFTA License?
You need one if you run a qualified motor vehicle in two or more IFTA states or provinces. A qualified motor vehicle is one that:
- Has two axles and weighs over 26,000 lbs (gross or registered weight), or
- Has three or more axles, at any weight, or
- Runs in a combination over 26,000 lbs.
RVs don't count.
IFTA Due Dates
| Quarter | Months | Return due |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | Jan – Mar | April 30 |
| Q2 | Apr – Jun | July 31 |
| Q3 | Jul – Sep | October 31 |
| Q4 | Oct – Dec | January 31 |
If the due date lands on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day. You still file a return for a quarter you didn't run.
What Late Costs You
Your base state can charge $50 or 10% of the tax owed, whichever is more, plus interest every month it goes unpaid. If a balance sits unpaid for 30 days after you're notified, your IFTA license can be revoked. That stops you in every IFTA state, not just one.
