Veteran Discount · Freedom Haulers
TruckWise Reporting is proud to support the veterans stepping into American trucking through the Freedom Haulers initiative. Veterans get 10% off our service fees, a waived onboarding fee normally up to $770, and free consortium enrollment — so the paperwork never stands between you and your first load.
Trucking is one of the few civilian careers where what you already know transfers almost directly. Running a schedule, keeping records that hold up to inspection, taking responsibility for a piece of equipment worth more than most houses — none of that is new to you. What has been in the way, until now, is the bureaucracy sitting between a veteran and a CDL.
On July 30, 2026, the White House and the U.S. Departments of Transportation, Veterans Affairs, War, and Labor launched Freedom Haulers — an interagency campaign built to move veterans into commercial driving seats. It cuts red tape that has slowed veterans down for years: the CDL skills test waiver window doubled, seven more states joined Even Exchange, and the GI Bill will cover tuition outright.
TruckWise handles the part that comes after. We are not a CDL school and we are not a carrier. We are the compliance company that keeps you legal once the wheels start turning.
Cutting through the announcement language, here is what is materially different for you right now:
The official program site — with the waiver forms, the state-by-state breakdown, and the step-by-step roadmap — lives at freedomhaulers.dot.gov. Start there for anything about your CDL itself. Come to us for everything after.
Getting your CDL is step one. If you are driving for Werner, UPS, Schneider, J.B. Hunt or any other carrier, they handle compliance and you are set — go run loads.
But a lot of veterans do not stop there. The whole appeal of this industry is that you can own the truck, pick the freight, and answer to nobody. The moment you decide to run under your own authority, an entirely separate mountain of federal paperwork lands on you — and unlike your CDL, nobody hands you a roadmap for it.
That is our lane. Here is what we take off your plate:
One thing that trips up new carriers constantly, and we would rather you hear it from us now than learn it the expensive way: a DOT driver must have a negative pre-employment drug test result in hand before operating a commercial motor vehicle. Enrollment in a consortium alone does not make you compliant — the test has to be completed and returned negative first.
We can get you enrolled the same day you call. The test itself takes as long as the lab takes. Anyone promising you "compliant in an hour" is either confused or selling you something. Build a few days of margin into your plan and you will be fine.
The federal data backs up what carriers already know. According to the Freedom Haulers campaign, veteran drivers are involved in 42% fewer accidents while covering 98% more miles than their civilian counterparts. Roughly a quarter of all truckers in America are veterans. Werner alone has pledged to hire 1,400 veterans and military spouses in 2027.
None of that is a coincidence. Pre-trip inspections are just PMCS with a different acronym. Hours-of-service rules are just a duty roster. Logging, documenting, and staying inside a regulation is not new to you — it is Tuesday.
The compliance side is the same story: it is not hard, it is just relentless. Deadlines that never stop coming, from four different agencies, none of whom will remind you. That is the part we carry so you can focus on the road.
No, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. TruckWise Reporting is an independent DOT compliance company. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a listed partner of the Freedom Haulers campaign, the U.S. Department of Transportation, or any federal agency. The veteran discount on this page is ours, offered on our own services, because we think it is the right thing to do. For anything official about the program itself, go to freedomhaulers.dot.gov.
No. Driving for an established carrier requires no authority of your own — they handle all of it. You only need your own USDOT number, MC authority, insurance filings, UCR, IFTA, IRP, and drug testing program if you decide to run as an owner-operator under your own authority or start your own carrier.
The 10% applies for as long as you are a TruckWise client. It is not an introductory rate that quietly expires at renewal.
TruckWise service fees — the part we charge for doing the work. It does not apply to government filing fees: UCR fees, IRP fees, state permit fees, FMCSA registration fees, and similar. Those get passed through to you at exactly what the agency charges, with nothing added. We cannot discount them because they were never ours in the first place. Anyone who tells you they can discount a state fee is marking it up first.
Normally up to $770 depending on the size and complexity of your operation. For veterans it is $0 — waived outright, not rolled into your monthly.
It means we waive the enrollment fee to get you set up in the program. The individual DOT tests themselves — pre-employment, random selections, post-accident — are billed at cost as they occur. We will lay out exactly what those run before you commit to anything.
Yes. The veteran discount is not tied to the Freedom Haulers program or to any timeline. If you served, it applies.
Talk to us anyway. If you are inside your final 6 months and looking at SkillBridge, there is real value in mapping out the business side before you separate rather than after.
Offer terms: The 10% veteran discount applies to TruckWise Reporting service fees only and does not apply to government filing fees (including but not limited to UCR, IRP, state permit, and FMCSA fees), which are passed through at cost. The waived onboarding fee normally runs up to $770 depending on operation size and complexity. Free consortium enrollment covers the enrollment fee only; individual DOT drug and alcohol tests are billed at cost as they occur. Proof of veteran status required.
