Frequently Asked Questions

You are not required to have one, but operating as a sole proprietor means your personal assets sit behind the business. Most owner-operators form an LLC before they take their first load. We file in all 50 states.

An EIN is your federal tax ID. You need one to open a business bank account, hire employees and file business taxes, and FMCSA registration expects it. We pull EINs directly from the IRS, usually same day.

Every state requires an LLC to name a registered agent with a physical address in that state to receive legal mail. If you are on the road, using your home address means missing something that matters. We provide agent service.

It can reduce self-employment tax once your profit is high enough to justify running payroll, but it adds filing obligations and it is not right for everyone. We file the IRS Form 2553 when it makes sense — talk it through with us and your accountant first.

Most states want an annual or biennial report and a fee, and letting that lapse can administratively dissolve your entity — which takes your operating authority with it. We track the dates and file them.
